Bringing joy to virtual spaces

In 2020, we set out to create meaningful connection in a newly disconnected world. We hoped to bring joy to virtual spaces through games and exercises that would foster creativity and optimize teamwork.

What happened went beyond our expectations! There is a real need for this kind of play, and in a very short amount of time, Recess went global — working with Google teams across Europe, tech firms in South America and the United Kingdom, and a wide range of nonprofits across the country. We got to play with the most incredible people, sharing stories, tears, and laughter. Thanks to these open and resilient players, our goals were clarified for us.

What did we learn?

As the social fabric of any organization frays, so does its efficacy. So much of our lives and work have shifted to two-dimensional online spaces, where we’re often forced to exist solely in a “work on, work off” binary. Not with Recess! We innovate fun, new ways to be together virtually, build strategies for scaling connection online, and encourage vulnerability and playfulness inside the workday.
